No one can do everything, Robert. And no single person can do "enough."
This job will not be entirely done in our lifetime, although there are
notches and inroads that we can cut. It is important to care for and raise
Shelby now, too.
I like your idea of keeping our messages on the bridges timely! That
occurred to me before W's veto, and I tried out some new veto themes right
afterwards. "Veto W/Impeach," etc. I tried a less sucinct message, too,
that I am not sure was as legible.
But do you have any slogans in mind? I personally think humor is also good,
however hokie or biting. And right now I also think we need to remind
people that every day we stay in Iraq we are just prolonging a war in which,
on the average, three americans and 100 Iraqis are killed every day. Maybe
the Wednesday crew should tell people that the U.S. is arming and funding
Fatah to foment conflict and killing among palestinians.
No humor in those last two themes, and not very pithy. But I'm open for
suggestions
Don the verbose.

Don you have described a functional strategy for building bridges from the
bridge.
However, I do apologize to the world and Shelby for not doing enough to stop
this madness.
I do think that we need to be more town crier-like and change our messages
daily to keep up with what's current.

Robert you obviously don't have to appologize when you have to be somewhere
else. It's great that you were able to be there when you could. I am glad
you wrote this, though, because there are some observations about Fway
blogging I would like to make.
Regarding the number of people on the bridge Tuesday, I must admit that I
have not been pushing to get a lot of people out the past two or three
weeks. This is firstly because we have had some success with corporate
media recently, and it seems to me unlikely that they will come back again
soon without some new angle to work. Secondly I don't want to burn people
out with Freeway Blogging, because there may be other times in the future
which may be more auspicious for large freeway actions, and they will be
needed then. We seem to have a constant core group, and I am content for
the moment to maintain the current blogging levels on the bridges over the
Southwest Fwy. Of course, this is only my current whim and is subject to
change from moment to moment.
I would also like to share that it has seemed to me that there was a
reduction in driver responsiveness after the recent veto. I interpreted
this as indicating a despondency due to not seeing how to preceed to end the
war and impeach W. In that light it seemed rather mean spirited that
honking picked up considerably Tuesday -- by my count -- when Jerry Falwell
died. Coincidence, I hope. Have to see how things go Friday.
You seem to respond strongly to individual drivers and passengers, Robert.
I am not sure what to say about that. There are people who are on our side,
and people who aren't. Over time our side has become the majority and is
continuing to grow Kids who oppose us I tend minimize as just acting out to
impress their friends, and not having any sense or life experience. Since
negative people are looking for a negative reaction, it amuses me to show
that their hostility doesn't concern me.
I certainly continue to consider it worthwhile to continë with the Fway
Blogging (6,000 cars an hour, about 10,000 people in same) while doing
everything else we can to creat a climate and zeitgeist for impeachment.
Should we worry more about getting people out on the bridges now, Robert?
Whatayathink?

Don,
Sorry, I had to leave so abruptly this evening on the Montrose, may I be
excused? It was an emergency..well sort of. I had just been informed by
the 'one who must be obeyed' that I was to pick up Shelby from school by
5:30PM and it was already 5:35PM, and I got there by 5:47PM and she was
waiting at the front door. Whew! That was too close.
Anyway, give my apologies to Jim and Karen for rushing off without saying
goodbye. I felt somewhat perplexed this evening on the Montrose Bridge.
While I was looking through the fence and holding my required two
signs/banner, my regular Abu Ghrieb image and 15'' tall letters IMPEACH
banner, I had two thoughts...well I had many thoughts and I would like to
share these two: some nice lady and a late model Subaru waved and honked and
had a very sincere smile on her face and even though we were only four I had
the feeling that what we are doing IS getting to people. They acknowledge
our presence and commend our courage for being there with our signs. And
then, my second thought was when I heard a petulant teenager snarling from
outside his window " F_CK YOU" said with a viciousness that I have a really
hard time understanding but then I know and accept just how stupid people
are, but when I saw the expression on Karen's face (she also heard and saw
this ignamarole) I saw real despair one that challenges hope, A feeling
that this other human being would just like us not to be here, alive or
dead...just disappear. How come we occupy the same planet? Other than that
toothache of a guy I still think it is a worthwhile thing to do.
