In the 1980's, there were witch hunts targeting Puerto Ricans, who protested against the treatment of their country as a 2nd class colony. I have no idea why Lopez Rivera is in jail, I only know that there were Puerto Rican students in Boston, at that time, worried about being spied on,because they were outspoken  about the situation in P.R.
