Here we go again, with all due respect, Jimmy has his own “alternative facts”! He says: “Hillary & Obama want health care for all.”!! Delusional. Am I wrong?

Joe,
Every ex-president gets those big bucks for speeches. That is nothing new or does it mean they favor the rich.
Hillary & Obama want health care for all. Repubs want to kill the Affordable Care Act and eliminate Medicaid expansion money. That's in today's news. Sen. Lindsey Graham is leading this effort. John McCain is thinking about it since AZ governor is also on board.

Look at the policies Bill enacted during his 8 year reign. Based on his actions he is the most successful president of implementing Republican policies.
His military attack on Kosovo let the Military Industrial Complex know he is their guy. Hilary as Sec of State made it worst. Remember she was getting $200,000 a speech on Wall street just before her run for Queen. We now see Obama following this lead but as ex king he gets $400,000 for a Wall St speech or showing up at a convention. Bill and Hillary have always been everything for the .01% (Princes and Princesses) Nothing the unions and middle class.

Joe,
Where do you get the idea that Hillary and Bill want the USA to be ruled by the rich? I have never heard such a statement from anyone else.
They both are Democrats which try to help the middle and lower classes whereas the Repubs lean to helping the rich stay rich will their tax programs.

Majority of Republicans do the same get their money from Corporations. This is a distortion of Democracy and what the Pope calls "Savage Capitalism" It puts money before people.

John McCain is just one member of the senate. He is against torture.
Foreign policy regarding Venezuela is under the president and Sec. of State not Congress.

Congress is not on Military Industrial payroll, where is your evidence of that? But they may have military projects in almost every congressional district that congress reps can vote for.

No Lee, the sanctions have nothing to do with V's economic collapse and over 700% inflation. Sanctions were put on recently because of Maduro's making himself a dictator and squashing democracy. Economic collapse is due to V's shutting out oil companies and wasting huge amounts of income. US stands for democracy and tries to quell moves by dictators like in Cuba and V.

The problem is that in Venezuela, where the democratic institutions function, where the different branches of power function, where the different political public powers make decisions are not agreeable to the Venezuelan opposition, they try to attack the Venezuelan system.

I read the Al Jazerra interview with Delcy Rodriguez who heads Madero's Constituent Assembly which has all power over every part of V government. They have banned leader of opposition Enrique Capriles from politics for 15 years. This is the height of corruption. She is big part of the grab for dictatorial power by Madero.
PS: Freedom House gives V partially free, a 35 rating, Saudi Arabia, not free, a 10 rating and N. Korea, not free, a 3 rating. USA,free, has 90 rating.

August 18, 2017 (Statement by Freedom House Re: Venezuela)
In response to the days-old constitutional assembly announcing that it is taking over all legislative powers of the National Assembly, the country’s parliament, Freedom House issued the following statement:
“The illegal grab of legislative powers by the constitutional assembly, a group with no legal standing, is part of President Maduro’s efforts to silence all dissent and shore up a dictatorship," said Carlos Ponce, director of Latin America programs at Freedom House. “The constitutional assembly was created through a fraudulent election and has no legitimate authority to act against congress.”

Jimmy, if “Freedom House sets standards for democracy” then how do you explain the U.S. unconditional support for the Saudi Arabia’s undemocratic and dictatorial regime?
Please note that I’m talking about the U.S. government (Democratic or Republican administration) actual excellent relationship with Saudi Arabia.
Since you have a very simple outlook of the world, please answer this simple question: If V is bad why SA is good?
Massoud
* You can avoid the answer by saying that Freedom House is an independent entity (!) or they have criticized Saudi Arabia before. However the question is how do you justify the U.S. government double standard to yourself?

Enjoyed talk today by Francisco Monaldi, PhD at Rice U's Baker Institute for Pubic policy. He was born in Venezuela, has an impressive bio and is a lecturer in energy economics at Rice.
He talked for 45 minutes, followed by Q&A for 15.
I took a full page of notes:
Freedom House says Venezuela is no longer a democracy.
Badly managed income in 1970's. Shell & Exxon were there but V started taking more and more of oil revenue so oil companies stopped investing in V. Exports of oil dropped. Hugo Chavez took power in 1999 and became partners with Fidel Castro.
In 4 years, more than 1/3 of V GDP collapsed. Chavez became popular because of high oil prices.
1998-2013 V had slowest growth rate & highest inflation in S. America.
Government debt rose rapidly & poverty increased rapidly.
Maduro has only 17.4 percent approval rating in V.
Oil production has dropped from 3 million barrels per day to one million. Oil rig count dropped from 110 to 70 active rigs.
V owns Citgo Oil.
V is still friends with China & Russia.
Send questions or comments to: francisco.monaldi at rice.edu
He is very knowledgeable about V and spoke without notes.
He would be an excellent speaker for any serious group.
What do you think?
